The Farm

Yesterday I went to a farm. It was awesome!

Sehn Family Farm
This farm belongs to the Sehn family. They were the people I got the milk from at the feira!  They sell milk, butter, cream, veggies, and fruit.

They make the milk starting from the cows all the way to the bag. To get milk, the cows have to be pregnant or recently had a calf. 18 out of their 24 cows make milk. They have a big milk room when you go in there there is a big pasteurizing machine that heats the milk gently to kill the bacteria.

Here is where they milk the cows
After they pasteurize the milk they skim some for cream. They sell some cream and use some for butter. The butter and cream is yellow because the cows eat grass year round.

The Sehn family also grow fruits and veggies. On the way to the farm we saw two big cell towers , the phone companies pay them to have it there. The farm had a lot of corn, cucumbers, green sweet peppers, grapes, and jacuticaba. Jacuticaba are kind of like grapes, but you can't eat the skin. You suck out the insides. They also grow on the bark of a tree!

The Sehn farm was very fun The milk was the most fun part. If you go to Santa Cruz  find them at the feria. It will be a blast!
